Falling In Love With Earth Mother
Bring your awareness into your physical body. Notice your feet and seat. Soften your forehead, jaw, neck and upper back. Relax your stomach and breathe.
One effect of trauma is that we disconnect from our body. We store unresolved trauma as sensations and energy in our body along with associated thoughts and we naturally want to avoid being hijacked into traumatic memory. Somatic mindfulness, yoga, QiGong and many other practices and tools help us re-inhabit our body.
Trauma therapy helps many of us, as does learning about our nervous system, and letting go of shame and core deficiency beliefs. We gradually develop strength and resilience. We are able to recognize when our nervous system is activating us into a survival response like fight/ flight/ freeze/ fawn and we come back into emotional regulation.
Bring your awareness to the soles of your feet and sense into the energy of the earth below you. If we have time, we might explore, like in this Redwood Forest Meditation, visualizing the layers of soil, roots, insects, water and deeper into bedrock and heat.
Bring your awareness to the space above your head and up into the sky. Notice the space in front and behind your body. Notice the air that comes into your body through your nostrils, into your lungs and circulates through every cell in your body. Our bodies are in an energy field that we can expand our awareness to include.
Through 30+ years of meditation, I have realized I am Awareness, the energy of Consciousness. In the vast depths and stillness of the mind field, I know I am not alone.
Over the past few years of deep practice with Indigenous Grandmothers Fyre Jean Graveline and Nukumi Selina Mu, I have come to realize this in a more embodied way. I am not only a body or a mind or Consciousness in the universe. I am part of a vast network of energy and consciousness that is Earth Mother and the universe. Here’s a journey of a water droplet (or here) through earth river ocean and sky that guides us through this connection.
Just as trauma disconnects us from our body and the present moment, so does colonization and our extractivist culture separate us from the living world. We don’t protect what we are not aware of and are not connected with. Many in our culture view the Earth as a body of resources to extract for our benefit. We can’t afford to see and connect with the sacredness of Earth Mother and all her Beings.
Drinking water knowing it is part of our living consciousness is a different experience from unconsciously drinking eight classes of liquid to hydrate our body. Walking on earth, we know we are part of something bigger. We eat with gratitude for the plants and animals.
One of the powerful results of developing a relationship with Earth Mother is that we realize that we are not alone. We are part of a vast network and web of Consciousness. I continue to discover depth and connection, with the sky in the dark sacred night (or here), when I sit on a rock on the forest trail, or lean back into the support of a favorite tree.
I am a collaborator with LIFE as Medicine - Transformative healing arts by, for, and with Indigenous Peoples and Allies. Last week Metis Grandmother Fyre Jean Graveline brought us through Indigenous ceremony and art with Flower Power.
For the next three weeks, Grandmother Nukumi Selina Mu is joining us on Zoom to share lived Indigenous wisdom. She is an Earth Shaman Medicine Keeper who has come to help restore the Beauty, Well-Being and Cosmic Light of Humanity through all of the turbulence we are experiencing here now upon the Earth.
Sacred Harmony With The Earth is a clip from a previous teaching with us. How do we bring ourselves back into alignment with all that we are and with all that the Earth Mother is?
Medicine is that which will teach you or heal you.
Nukumi has been called upon by Source Creator and Mother Earth to work with the Ancient Ones helping to bring us back to the Truth Of Who We Truly Are, One with Nature and All That Is.
