Orange Shirt Day, a National Day of Truth and Reconciliation
September 30th in Canada is a National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, also known as Orange Shirt Day.
The above video is with Fyre Jean Graveline and myself on Zoom Monday September 30th. Fyre created a powerful art piece and poetic inquiry after hearing of the discovery in 2021 of the bodies of 215 Indigenous children in unmarked graves at the Kamloops Indian Residential School. We listened together and regulated our nervous systems to allow it in.
Educating ourselves is a necessary step in Truth and Reconciliation. From here, we can take action. Whether you are in Canada, the United States or Europe, Indigenous, or a white settler as I am, we are all treaty people. Explore what it means to understand that and take action.
